The Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI) rejected the third proposals to avoid the Pakistan-India tournaments in the Cricket International Council Tournaments (ICC).
Former England Captain Michael Atherton had urged the ICC to stop planning the lamps that ensure that India and Pakistan would face each other in every big tournament.
According to an Indian news website, a BCCi employee described it as “easy” to make suggestions on the Pakistan-India struggles, but claimed that broadcasting stakeholders would not agree on such a timetable that did not include the conflict between the competitors.
“It’s easy to talk about all this, but sponsors and broadcasting agencies agree with this?
Atherton’s observations came after the tension and controversy that followed last month T20 Asia Cup 2025, where the two fighters met three times, including the final.
The event was violated by heated exchanges, while the Captain of India Suryakumar Yadav also refused to shake hands with his Pakistani counterpart Salman Agha.
The hostility expanded beyond the men’s event, as women’s team rulers, Fatima Sana of Pakistan and Harmanpreet Kaur, India, also avoided hitting their hands after the ODI World Cup match on Sunday.
Writing in his column for the Times (United Kingdom), Atherton acknowledged that the decision of the ICC to plan India-Pakistan fixtures in a world tournament has strong commercial and diplomatic motives.
The two teams faced each other at the team stage of all 11 ICC events held since 2013.
“Despite its rarity – or perhaps because of this – the accessory has a huge economic influence,” Atherton wrote.
“It is one of the main reasons why ICC tournament is valued so much, about $ 3 billion for the 2023-27 cycle,” he added.
He also noted that with the bilateral cricket that loses economic value, ICC events have increased in importance, making India-Pakistan conflict a crucial factor for broadcasting and stakeholders and stakeholders.
However, Atherton argued that the race has now become a platform for political and emotional appearance and not for sporting competition.
“If Cricket was once a vehicle for diplomacy, it has now become clearly proxy for broader tensions and propaganda,” he said.
“There is little excuse for a serious sport to handle tournaments only for financial gain. Given the way in which rivalry exploits, there is even less reason to continue this practice.”
The 57 -year -old was completed by inviting the ICC to secure transparency in future tournament draw.
“For the next cycle of broadcasting rights, the tie should be transparent – and if India and Pakistan do not meet each time, so.”
