Dhaka: Bangladesh launched a major security operation on Sunday, as protesters attacked gangs allegedly linked to former Leader Sheikh Hasina.

A government statement said the operation started after gangs “linked to the fallen imperial regime attacked a group of students, leaving them seriously injured.”

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, head of the interior ministry in the interim government, took over the revolution of Hasina’s revolution with the head of the students of August 2024, described it as “operation devil Hunt”.

“It will continue until we uproot the devils,” Chowdhury told reporters.

Sweeping security companies come after days of turmoil.

On Wednesday, six months since Hassina left as the crowds fell into her palace in Dhaka, protesters broke the buildings associated with her family using excavators.

The protests were triggered in response to reports that the 77-year-old Hassina-who defied an arrest warrant for the testing of crimes against humanity-would appear on a Facebook broadcast of exile in neighboring India.

The destroyed buildings included the museum and the former home of Hasina’s first father, Bangladeshi’s first president, Sheikh Mujin Rahman.

The provisional government accused Hassina of violence.

On Friday, the temporary leader and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize Muhammad Yunus also claimed for calm.

“Respecting the rule of law is what differentiates the new Bangladesh we are working together to build, from the old Bangladesh under the fascist regime,” Yunus said in a statement.

“For the citizens who have climbed and overturned the Hashina regime … It is imperative to prove to ourselves and our friends around the world that our commitment to our principles – respect for the political and human rights of the other and acting in accordance with with the law – it is indifferent.

A few hours later, students’ members against discrimination – the protest team credited with the promotion of the uprising against Hasina – attacked the Gazipur Dhaka area.

The vocal and strong team – whose members are in the government cabinet – had requested action since.
