With the death toll reaching at least 12,000 Palestinians so far—including 5,000 children—amid Israel’s unrelenting shelling and ground invasion of Gaza, former Pakistani governor Babar Azam on Friday stood up for the people in the besieged enclave.

Taking to X, ex-Twitter, Pakistan’s top cricketer shared a photo of the girl in which she is seen holding the Palestinian flag and holding a baby doll. He also wrote a piece of poetry in the caption of the post.

Last month, Rizwan dedicated his win against Sri Lanka to the people of Gaza during the ICC World Cup 2023.

Rizwan tweeted on October 11, a day after hitting 131 (not out) in the highest ever run in World Cup Cricket history. The tweet read: “This was for our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Glad to contribute to the victory. Kudos to the entire team and especially Abdullah Shafiq and Hasan Ali for making it easier,” he wrote.

“Extremely grateful to the people of Hyderabad for their amazing hospitality and support throughout,” he added.

The PCB had asked batsman Mohammad Rizwan to delete his social media post in which he dedicated the team’s historic win against Sri Lanka to the Palestinians facing genocide by Israel.

However, when contacted, a Pakistan Cricket spokesperson said: “The International Cricket Council and PCB’s legal department are relevant here as I am not aware of this information.”

As Israel’s assault on Gaza enters its 42nd day today, nearly 12,000 Palestinians — including nearly 5,000 children — have died in relentless shelling and airstrikes on residential areas, including hospitals, in the besieged enclave.

In the past 48 hours, 24 patients died at Al Shifa Hospital due to power outages as Israeli forces searched the facility, which they claimed were Hamas hideouts.

According to information, Israeli troops were operating in northern Gaza.

Last week, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant claimed that their forces cut the strip in two.
