- Pakistan’s ruler will appreciate the advice he gets from his father.
- Babar Azam disappointed with PCB’s behavior, ex-cricketers.
- It comes as Pakistan failed to play in the ongoing World Cup.
Frustrated with the behavior of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and former cricketers, Babar Azam is likely to step down as captain of white-ball cricket after his return from India, well-informed sources revealed on Friday.
During the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the Pakistan team has failed to deliver as the Green Shirts are lingering on the brink of elimination from the mega event.
According to sources, the 29-year-old was seeking guidance on his future, in consultation with former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja and people close to him.
During the training session at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Friday (today), Azam sought advice from Raja.
The decision whether to continue as captain will be influenced by consultations upon his return to the country. Under the current circumstances, Babar appreciates the advice he receives, especially from his father.
His close aides are advising him to step down from leadership in all three forms, the sources added. The sources further added that the proposal is based on the belief that prominent captains faced challenges in the Test series in Australia.
Therefore, people in Babar’s inner circle advised him to step down from the captaincy roles in both red-ball and white-ball cricket.
Although Babar initially planned to make this decision while in India, he has now postponed it and will finalize his choice upon his return to the country.
The Babar-led side suffered setbacks against India, Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan, while emerging victorious against the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Pakistan still have a chance to finish their campaign with 10 points, but their run rate is a cause for concern. To overcome the Kiwis, they require a substantial win against England.
If Pakistan beat England first, they should win by 287 runs.
If Pakistan bat first, they have to bowl out England for 50 runs and chase down the target in two overs or 100 runs in three overs.
