Peshawar: Imran Khan Cricket Stadium’s sign was placed in the Cricket Arbab Niaz Stadium, despite the opposition from political parties and people from different areas, The news reported.

As the renovation project already underway is already underway, the workers have found a huge sign bearing the new name of the stadium, formerly known as Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium.

There were reports that in addition to others, Pakistan’s founder Tehreek-e-insaf Imran Khan had opposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s decision to change the stadium name in 1984 and was named after a former Federal Minister of Sports by Peshawar, Arbab Niaz Muhammad.

The family of the late Arbab Niaz was between a large number of people who opposed the renaming of the cricket stadium. However, the sign was prepared and installed in the sports facility despite the opposition.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had also opposed the change in the name of the Cricket Stadium and described it as inappropriate to name it after former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The ground is the only international cricket facility in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that also has not hosted any international race in the last 19 years due to the security status.

The stadium is not likely to host any Super League (PSL) match, even this year, despite the acceleration of construction and renovation in recent months.

The last international race he played on the ground was between Pakistan and India on February 6, 2006. The hosts won the race with 7 routes via the D/L method. Recently, representatives of the Cricket International Council (ICC) had visited the Arbab Niaz Stadium to inspect the settings for international players as well as security measures for the next season of the PSL.
