Washington: US Vice President JD Vance said Thursday that India and Pakistan should weaken tensions, but added that the US could not control nuclear armed Asian neighbors and a war between them would be “none of our businesses”.
“We want this thing to weaken as soon as possible. But we cannot control these countries,” Vance said in an interview Fox News Show “The story with Martha MacCallum”.
“What we can do is try to encourage these people to be degraded a little, but we are not going to participate in the middle of the war that is virtually no business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it,” he added.
India is an important partner for Washington, which aims to tackle China’s growing influence, while Pakistan remains an American ally despite its reduced importance after Washington’s withdrawal from neighboring Afghanistan in 2021.
Analysts and some former officials have said that the US involvement of the US to achieve diplomatic targets in the Russian war in Ukraine and Israel’s war in Gaza can make Washington leave India and Pakistan in the early days of their tensions.
Defense Minister Khawaja ASIF said that further retaliation was “increasingly confident” on the second day of big conflicts on Thursday. Two days of battle killed nearly four dozen people.
The last escalation of the India-Pakistan rivalry began on May 7, when at least 31 citizens were killed in non-caused Indian cross-border attack. In retaliation, Pakistan destroyed its five fighter aircraft, including three rafale, and dozens of drones.
India claimed that it is targeting terrorists hideouts in Pakistan, responding to the April 26th fighters attacking 26 people in illegal India occupied Jamos and Kashmir of the New Delhi accusing Islamabad, which refused.
“Our hope and expectation is that this is not going to break into a wider regional war or, God forbids, a nuclear conflict,” Vance said on Thursday.
Washington has held regular talks in the last two days, including Thursday, when Foreign Minister Marco Rubio made calls with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and India Foreign Minister, urging them to weaken and have a direct dialogue.
US President Donald Trump has called on increasing tensions. On Wednesday, he said he hoped the two countries would now stop after going “Tit-for-tat”. The Foreign Ministry called on both countries to work for Washington’s terms as a “responsible solution”.
