Ahmedabad: Authorities in the state of Gujarat, India, said on Tuesday that they had identified all the 260 bodies recovered after an Air India aircraft earlier this month in the western city of Ahmedabad.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with 242 people on the boat, intended for London’s Gatwick Airport, lost seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad on June 12 and broke out in a fire as it hit a medical guesthouse.
There was a survivor among them on the plane and the crash also killed 19 people on the ground.
The number of death was below the previous estimation of the 270s, but the officials remained careful about the final tax.
“We have identified 259 victims. They include 240 passengers and 19 non -passes.
“The conflict area is still being cleaned, unless we are sure that additional victims will not be found, we cannot state the final death tax,” Joshi added.
The ruins of 256 people have surrendered to their families, the local government said in a statement, adding that 253 victims were identified through the DNA sample and the remaining six through the identity of the face.
The evolution comes days after the country’s examination of Air India for “repeated and serious violations” related to planning and supervision of pilot duties.
The Directorate -General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered Air India to remove three company executives from crew planning roles – a department’s vice president, a head of crew programming and a design manager – for delays linked to 10 -hour flight.
The June 20 order said “systematic failures in the programming protocol and violations” and criticized the lack of strict disciplinary measures against responsible officials.
It should be noted that Air India was undertaken by the TATA Group in 2022 and faces many challenges in its efforts to rebuild its image after years of criticism from travelers for bad service.
