LONDON:
Carlos Alcaraz swept Wimbledon’s semifinals for a third consecutive year, as the defender champion demolished Britain’s Cameron Norrie in a Masterclass of the Center Court on Tuesday.
Alcaraz took just 99 minutes to break Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 in his most imposing performance at this year’s tournament.
The Spanish second seed fell four sets in a series of Scrappy screens during its journey until the last eight.
But Alcaraz returned to his authoritarian best in the quarter -finals, blasted 39 winners to create one last four conflict with the American fifth seed Taylor Fritz.
“To be able to play another semifinal here at Wimbledon is extremely special,” Alcaraz said.
It will be great. I’m really happy with the way I played against a really difficult player, “he added.
With the world number one Jannik Sinner struggling with elbow injury after two sets of two sets in the fourth round before Grigor Dimitrov’s opponent was forced to retire, Alcaraz looks like the title directed to the stages of the tournament.
Alcaraz is in a better career of 23 games that will win since he lost Holger Rune in the Barcelona final in April-a wonderful series that brought him to the French Open, Rome Masters and Monte Carlo.
The Spaniard, who managed Novak Djokovic in the last two Wimbledon finals, won 34 of the 37 races in the grass set, while his last defeat at the All England Club came against Sinner in the fourth round in 2022.
“Taylor plays great. The grass season was really successful for him so far with two titles and one semifinal here,” Alcaraz said.
“I have to be ready for this battle. I will try to play the same level as today.
“I will rest a little and enjoy the time with my team and my family. I will definitely play a golf to erase my mind a little bit,” he added.
Alcaraz is only the second Spaniard to reach Wimbledon’s semifinals at least three times after Rafael Nadal, who made eight appearances in the last four.
Five -year Grand Slam champion aims to become the fifth man to win Wimbledon in three consecutive years in the Open Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Djokovic.
Alcaraz, who will make Grand Slam’s eighth appearance, is also offered to become the second youngest player in the open era, after Borg, to win six big men’s titles. Alcaraz lost some time confirming his dominance with breaks in third and fifth games of a one -sided opening set.
The 22 -year -old was equally commander in the second set as the number 61 struggled to stop the tide.
Alcaraz was in full control and the third set followed the same pattern, with the decisive break coming in the sixth game as he sealed his victory in a ruthless way.
