More than 200 people were killed when the Air India Boeing 787 intended for London with 242 people crashed a few minutes after taking off from the Western city of India Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Here are some details about the broad body’s intercontinental jet:
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is one of the most advanced aircraft in the service and experts say it has a strong security file without previous fatal accidents. Boeing said she was aware of the original reports and work to collect more information.
* The 787-8 aircraft involved in Thursday’s accident were delivered in 2014 and are the smallest of the three variants.
* 787-8 usually possesses 248 passengers and the largest and longer 787-9 has 296 people. The largest variant, 787-10, which also has the smallest range, has 336 seats, according to Boeing data.
* The Twin-Engined 787 comes with a selection of two types of engine, provided by GE Aerospace or Britain Rolls-Royce. The overwhelming engines were provided by GE, which said it would support the investigation.
* Boeing has sold more than 2,500 787s, including 47 in Air India. He has delivered 1,189 jet aircraft to airlines or salaries, but has suffered in recent years from production delays, adding a wider corporate crisis to America’s largest exporter.
* In 787 first flew in 2011 and was put into operation in the same year after Delays.
* Its creation marked a significant discovery in design, promises 20% higher fuel efficiency through the use of durable, lightweight materials and more electrical systems.
* Its size, range and performance made it ideal for opening new routes, bypassing jumbos nodes, such as Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 and helping both out -of -production aircraft drive.
* Airbus followed its example by developing the A350 composite jet.
* 787 also pioneered a new way of building airplanes, largely outsourcing the structure and components to companies around the world and gathering tracks in Everett, Washington and later in North Charleston, South Carolina.
But shake-up led to problems in the supply chain, and Boeing later acknowledged that she had gone too far with the external assignment.
Previous incidents:
* In July 2013, a vacant Ethiopian Airline 787 fired on the ground at Heathrow Airport in London in an incident later connected to a short circuit in an emergency tracking transmitter.
* In 2013, the regulatory authorities were temporarily supported by the World Fleet 787 after lithium batteries overheating on two Japanese planes in Tokyo and Boston, resulting in design changes better containing the risk of thermal runaway.
* In March last year, at least 50 people were injured when a 787 latam Airlines fell abruptly in the middle of the Sydney flight to Auckland. Researchers focused on an unintentional move forward in the pilot seat.
