When we think of smoking, cancer and pulmonary disease usually come to mind. But the hidden number is much wider: smoking reduces fertility for both men and women, complicit work and increases the risk of mortality, genetic abnormalities and even infant death.
Relaxation, often adolescent glazing as a “cool” alternative, is no safer. Research shows that it carries many of the same long -term dangers as traditional smoking.
Geo Digital We have revealed how smokers – both men and women – not only endanger their own health but also by future generations.
Dr. Nausheen YouSuf, a gynecologist at AGA Khan University Hospital, explained the immediate relationship between smoking and fertility.
“Tobacco contains nicotine and when burned, it releases carbon monoxide. Both toxins affect men’s sperm and women’s eggs, leading to reduced fertility rates, also increase the risk of complications for the baby,” he said.
According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), smoking during pregnancy doubles the chances of an infant’s sudden death. Even passive smoking-when a future mother is exposed to used tobacco-can be as harmful to the baby. The report emphasizes that mother’s smoking increases the risk of mortality by 23% and genetic abnormalities by 13%.
Social stigma adds to the challenge
Beyond the health risks, there is also a social dimension. Many women are reluctant to reveal their smoking habits for doctors for fear of being judged.
“About 13 of the 100 women are struggling with smoking addiction, but most people feel ashamed to admit it,” explained Dr. Farheen, a gynecologist. “They know that society will describe them as ‘bad women’, but the truth is that smoking is just as harmful to men and women.”
Dr. Farheen added that when women are open for smoking, doctors ensure that they receive full support and guidance to help them stop.
How smoking hurts mothers and babies
Dr. Nausheen warns that the impact of smoking during pregnancy may be heart – babies may enter the world with lips or palates, struggling to feed or even breathe, while their mental development is delayed from the beginning.
Doctors warn that nicotine and carbon monoxide directly affect the placenta, increasing the risk of severe bleeding in the last months of pregnancy. In many cases, the placenta disconnects before delivery, leading to severe blood loss and, tragically, even mortality.
When we talk about smoking, one cannot ignore the popular tendency to hit among young people.
It’s not just smoking – the slap creates similar risks to expected mothers. A study conducted by the School of Public Health at Ahmedabad University in India analyzed data from about 924,376 women. Among them, about 7,552 were reported during pregnancy.
The study revealed that mothers who touched during pregnancy not only encountered breastfeeding difficulties, but their babies also had serious consequences. These included premature birth, low birth weight and congenital defects.
The teratogenic chemicals released from liquids with distinction are particularly harmful in the early stages of pregnancy. While such chemicals may not cause significant damage to adults, they may be extremely detrimental to a growing fetus.
Dr. Farheen explained: “The fruity or the sweet flavors in the atmosphere may look harmless because of their pleasant smell, but in fact they release carcinogenic particles.
Risk of passing addiction to the next generation
Research also shows that when parents remain addicted to smoking, their children are more likely to adopt the same habit later in life.
Dr. Farheen emphasized that while the treatments and the creation of more non -smoking zones can help, the real solution lies in people who find the courage to stop.
“Removing from this addiction is difficult, but with proper support and will, it is quite likely,” he said.
The choice of smoking or waving may feel personal, but its consequences are far beyond a person. For mothers, it can mean complex pregnancies. For babies, it may mean a struggle for survival before they even take their first breath. As doctors point out, abandonment is not just about saving a lifetime – it is the protection of generations that have still come.
