Will Peshawar host PSL 9 match?

Peshawar is yet to see a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match, despite persistent calls from Peshawar Zalmi fans and team owner Javed Afridi.

The Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium in Peshawar has undergone extensive construction and renovation over the past two years, with the hope that it will soon join the list of cities to host the PSL.

While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan as the host cities for the upcoming ninth edition of the PSL, there is a possibility that Peshawar could host an exhibition match between Peshawar Zalmi and another franchise before from the official PSL start.

It is worth noting that an exhibition match ahead of PSL 8 was held at the Bugti Stadium in Quetta, with a clash between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi.

Expressing interest in organizing a PSL 9 match, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approached the PCB. Sources reveal that a recent PCB delegation visited Peshawar for discussions with government officials, including representatives from the Sports Department.

As part of the arrangement, the Hayatabad Cricket Stadium has been proposed as the venue for the PSL exhibition match, with the PCB requiring satisfaction regarding the condition of the pitches and facilities before approval.

To speed up the negotiation process, a committee has been set up and tasked with framing rules and regulations by next Sunday.

The PCB has sought reports from members of the Infrastructure Structure Department and Home Department as discussions continue. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Matiullah Khan is optimistic about organizing a PSL match in Peshawar, indicating that ongoing talks with the PCB delegation are progressing positively. Negotiations and discussions are still ongoing and further updates are expected in the coming weeks.

Unlike Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi and Multan, who have been regular hosts of PSL matches for the past three seasons, Peshawar and Quetta are yet to see matches for their respective franchises.
