KARACHI:
Peshawar Zalmi have agreed to extend their PSL franchise deal, while other franchises have until Tuesday to decide. However, the issues of the Multan Sultans remain unresolved.
According to details, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently conducted a valuation of the Pakistan Super League and its franchises. Based on this assessment, new franchise fees were determined. Franchises were initially given until November 20 to accept the new terms of the agreement, which was later extended to November 25.
Sources say the franchise officials have been in talks for the past few days. Peshawar Zalmi is the first to agree to the new terms, while other teams are expected to follow soon.
The Multan Sultans franchise, however, has not received any official communication from the board regarding the new deal. After repeated criticism of the league and its officials, team owner Ali Tareen received an announcement. In response, he tore up the announcement in a sarcastic video, making his case even worse.
So far, the situation of the Multan Sultans remains unresolved. If no progress is made by Tuesday, the PCB may opt for a new round of bidding and Ali Tareen will be disqualified from the game on disciplinary grounds. In his recent statements, Tareen has hinted that he will take legal action.
Meanwhile, preparations are also underway for the sale of the seventh and eighth PSL teams. A public advertisement was released a few days ago and sources say that several companies have expressed interest in buying new franchises.
The PCB has shortlisted six cities and whichever company wins the bid will be allowed to choose a team name from among them.
New franchises
Pakistan Super League is pleased to announce that the auction for the two new HBL PSL franchise teams will be held on January 6, 2026.
This marks a major milestone in the league’s continued expansion and commitment to expanding its footprint across Pakistan. The addition of two new teams will also create new commercial, sporting and fan engagement opportunities.
The group of cities selected for possible franchise allocation includes: Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit.
Successful bidders will have the right to choose between these city/team names. Only technically qualified bidders will be invited to the Auction.
Now recognized as one of the premier T20 leagues worldwide, the HBL PSL continues to grow in stature, commercial power and following. The PCB and PSL management look forward to welcoming new stakeholders into the HBL PSL ecosystem and further increase the league’s impact on Pakistan cricket.
