Fuel prices were unchanged on Sunday and gold eased slightly (PSO).
Fuel
| Fuel | Price | Change | |—|—|—| | Petrol | Rs389.14 | unchanged | | High-speed diesel | Rs424.04 | unchanged |
PSO’s published rates still carry the 19 September effective date, indicating no fresh notification today.
Where the run stands
| | 7 September | 20 September | Change | |—|—|—|—| | Petrol | Rs345.87 | Rs389.14 | +Rs43.27 (+12.5pc) | | High-speed diesel | Rs378.05 | Rs424.04 | +Rs45.99 (+12.2pc) |
Petrol has given back Rs2.08 and diesel Rs0.88 of those rises over the past two revisions.
Gold
Gold now stands at Rs460,236 a tola, down Rs100. Ten grams eased Rs85 to Rs394,578, and silver fell Rs69 to Rs7,100.
Internationally gold slipped $1 to $4,377 an ounce and silver $0.69 to $66.22.
Both the tola and ten-gram figures reconcile exactly against Saturday’s Rs460,336 — a welcome change after two days in which published gold figures contradicted each other.
Equities
Markets are closed for the weekend. The KSE-100 stands at Friday’s close of 170,884.59, up 1,841.39 points on the day and 372.73 on the week.
The week ahead
The finance minister has put the cost of protest shutdowns at Rs120 billion a day, with Rawalpindi’s markets, transport terminals and bus services closed and business activity expected to be disrupted from 21 to 27 September.
Whatever the accuracy of that figure, the trading week opens into a capital region under restriction, with a second march scheduled for the 27th.
What is not established
No OGRA statement has been issued on the absence of a revision. It has not been reported whether trading hours or settlement will be affected by the restrictions in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
