ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Zahir Jaffer and his mother Asmat Jaffer spoke to the head of a private security company based in Rawalpindi over a dozen times on the day of Noor Mukadam’s gruesome murder which took place in the Jaffer family home in F-7 Islamabad, according to a report by investigative journalist Zahid Gishkori for The News International.
On 20 July 2021, the day Noor Mukadam was brutally beheaded, Asmat and Zahir were constantly in touch with the head of the firm, with a call traced between Asmat Jaffer and the firm at 7:12 PM.
According to the police, Noor’s murder occurred between 6:30 and 7:30 PM. Noor had tried to escape by jumping from the first floor and she was successful in escaping to the guard’s room, however, Zahir dragged her by her hair and took her back according to initial investigations.
The last call between Zahir Jaffer and his mother was at 7:29 PM in which the police believe Zahir told his mother that he had murdered Noor Mukadam.
Shortly after this call, Zahir also called the head of Trillium Security which lasted for five minutes. Interestingly, Asmat Jaffer also called the head five minutes later at least 3 times.
While it is still not clear why these frequent calls were made, it is being speculated that a cover-up was being planned by Zahir Jaffer and he was helped by his mother and her plethora of contacts in Islamabad.
Bails for Zakir and Asmat Jaffer were rejected by the court which held that it appeared that the parents“not only abetted but also made utmost efforts to destroy the evidence”.
The News International quoted Trillium’s head as saying: “I have nothing to do with what happened [at Jaffer House]. These are absolutely false findings. Whatever the folks are saying is incorrect, as I have no connection with this [Noor Mukadam] murder.”
During the day of the murder, Asmat Jaffer made over 200 calls to various people that include her domestic staff, neighbours in Islamabad, government officials, her son Zahir Jaffer, a security company and various other people.
The call records show that Zahir Jaffer was in touch with his mother throughout the time he was holding Noor Mukadam against her will and even after the murder had taken place.
Yet, Zahir Jaffer’s parents did not call the police but instead sent a team of Therapy Works to the crime scene, allegedly to cover up the heinous crime.
In an audio leaked by The Pakistan Daily, the CEO of Therapy Works, Mr Tahir Zahoor Ahmed said that Zakir Jaffer called him and told him his son was trying to “solicit” someone and they needed a team at their home.
The police is investigating whether the parents, especially Asmat Jaffer who was constantly in touch with her son knew what was happening in her Islamabad home.
Investigators are questioning if this frantic movement and activity meant Asmat already knew something terrible was about to happen at her house in Islamabad.
A source revealed that Zahir Jaffer also called a former classmate, who is the son of a former Prime Minister of Pakistan but the friend was unable to help.
Zahid Gishkori’s story has shed light on the exact role of Zahir Jaffer’s parents in this gruesome murder.
It has also emerged that famous criminal defence lawyer Ansar Nawaz Mirza who also defended Ayyan Ali in the money laundering case is defending Zahir Jaffer in this case.
Earlier, Zakir Jaffer, Zahir’s father had condemned the murder and disassociated himself with his son’s actions, however, it is unclear who is paying for Zahir Jaffer’s lawyer who is one of the most expensive lawyers in the country.
