Real Madrid has reached an agreement for Xabi Alonso to become their new coach at the end of the 2024-25 La Liga season, following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti, whose term will end after the final championship match on May 25, leaves behind a decorated spell responsible for Los Blancos.
During his time, he secured 15 big titles, including three Champions League crowns, three Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies.
According to sources near the club, the decision was mutually agreed after the Madrid Champions League exit to Arsenal.
Ancelotti is expected to take over as director of the Brazilian national team in front of the 2026 World Cup. Meanwhile, Santiago Solari can serve as a temporary director during the Club World Cup.
Alonso, who will sign a three -year deal, returns to the club where he played from 2009 to 2014.
Since abandoning the role of youth training in Real Madrid in 2019, he has proceeded through the B Real Sociedad team before joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2022.
His spell in Germany was extremely successful, guiding Leverkusen on a double DFB-Pokal Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in 2024, ending in the 11-year domestic domination of Bayern Munich.
Alonso’s involvement in Valdebas will be Gymnastics coach Alberto Encinas and long -term assistant Sebas Parrilla. The future of today’s Antonio Pintus Gymnastics Chief remains uncertain, although goalkeeper Luis Llopis is going to continue.
Real Madrid’s transfer plans under Alonso will be aligned with the existing club recruitment structure, with the director consulting, but not on top decisions.
The club aims to strengthen the center and the middle section, with its defender Juventus Dean Huijsen among the primary goals.
