All 12 wind power projects in Sindh’s Thatta district, with an installed capacity of 610 megawatts, have been connected to the national grid, China’s state-run Xinhua news agency said in a report on Thursday.
According to the report, more than 100 wind turbines in Thatta district have been continuously delivering green energy to households in rural areas as part of the 3,000-km China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) – a flagship project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. and Road Initiative (BRI).
“This is an important part of the wind power project portfolio. Currently, all 12 wind power projects, with a total installed capacity of 610 MW, have been connected to the grid,” said Yang Jianduo, PowerChina’s chief representative in Pakistan. .
“The project portfolio has created more than 20,000 jobs for local people, and once completed, it will provide 2 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy per year, equivalent to a 2 million tons reduction in carbon dioxide emissions,” Yang added.
This year marks 10 years since CPEC became operational. In this context, cooperation under the BRI was a main topic of discussion at the Second Conference of the World Economic Development and Security Forum of the Boao Forum for Asia held at the end of October.
The conference in Changsha, central China’s Hunan Province, was informed that CPEC had achieved fruitful results. “We are very happy and proud to say that we have actually achieved most of our goals and projects,” said Hassan Daud Butt, a senior adviser at an Islamabad-based think tank.
