ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack on Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz in Darra Adam Khail.
In a statement, TTP spokesperson said, “Mujahideen of TTP opened fire on the convoy of Shibli Faraz in Dara Adam Khel, in which Shibli’s driver & bodyguard got injured.”
Earlier, it was reported that Shibli Faraz was ambushed in Dara Adam Khel on his way to Peshawar.
He was on his way from his ancestral town of Kohat to Peshawar city. As armed assailants fired shots at his car, the window glassed were left shattered.
Senator Shibli Faraz’s bodyguard and driver were injured in the attack and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Speaking to the media, Shibli Faraz said that he was safe but his driver and bodyguard were injured.
It is to be mentioned here that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) armed group, also known has unilaterally announced an end to a month-long ceasefire with the Pakistani government, accusing authorities of reneging on promises made in the initial stages of peace talks, a statement says.
The ceasefire came into effect on November 9, after the Pakistani government announced the start of talks with the armed group, which has been fighting Pakistan’s government since 2007 and has carried out dozens of attacks targeting civilians and security forces across the country.
Late on Thursday, the TTP announced “it is not possible for the ceasefire to continue” under current conditions, in a statement released to journalists.
Pakistan’s government is yet to comment on the developments.
