- Putin’s hopes The agreements will guide the resolution of Ukraine’s conflict.
- Ukraine expects European allies to accept the results of US-Russia talks.
- It is not clear whether the conversations have taken significant steps towards the ceasefire.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not reach an agreement to resolve the Moscow war in Ukraine after a nearly three -hour summit in Alaska, although he described the meeting as “very productive”.
“There were many, many points we agreed,” Trump said at a joint press conference with Putin. “I would say some big ones that we haven’t got there, but we have made some progress. So there is no agreement until there is an agreement.”
Trump said that he and Putin did not reach an agreement on the “most important” aspect of their meeting, but there was a very good chance of getting there.
“Many points have been agreed. There are only a few left, some are not so important. They are probably the most important, but we have a very good chance of getting there, we didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there,” Trump told reporters.
Earlier, speaking to the press, Putin said that he hoped that the agreements that arrived at his summit with the US president could be a launchpad to resolve Ukraine’s conflict and restore bonds between Russia and the US.
“I expect that today’s agreements will become a reference point, not only for the resolution of the Ukrainian problem, but will also begin to restore business, realistic relations between Russia and the United States,” Putin said.
He said there were enormous opportunities for both countries to build a business and investment partnership in areas such as energy, technology and space exploration and the Arctic.
“I have every reason to believe that by going to this path, we can end the conflict to Ukraine as soon as possible,” he said in a joint press conference in which leaders did not receive any question.
The Russian president also said he expected that Ukraine and its European allies would accept the results of the US-Russia negotiation, warning them not to “torpedo” progress for resolving.
Putin, however, did not specify what the two sides were.
It was not clear whether the talks had created significant steps towards the ceasefire in the most deadly conflict in Europe in 80 years, a goal that Trump had set from the beginning.
Trump and Putin, along with leading foreign policy assistants, attributed to a room on an aviation base in Alaska’s Anchorage, at their first meeting since 2019.
Trump’s public goal for talks was to secure a stance on Putin’s battles and commitment to meet quickly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to negotiate the end of the war, which began when Russia invaded his neighbor 20.
Zelensky, who was not invited to the Summit, and his European allies feared that Trump could sell Ukraine by virtually freezing the conflict and recognizing – if only informal – Russian control over a fifth of Ukraine.
Trump tried to weaken such concerns, as he boarded the Air Force, saying he would let Ukraine decide on any territorial concessions.
“I’m not here to negotiate for Ukraine. I’m here to get them on a table,” he said.
Asked what would make the meeting successful, he told reporters: “I want to see a ceasefire quickly … I’m not going to be happy if it’s not today … I want the murder to stop.”
Zelensky officially ruled out the tradition of Moscow any territory and also seeks a security guarantee supported by the United States.
Trump said he would invite Zelensky and NATO leaders to inform them in talks with Putin.
Pull the red carpet
Just on the ground in Alaska, Trump greeted Putin on a red carpet on the asphalt of the base. The two shook their hands warmly and touched each other in their hand before leading to Trump’s limousine on the Summit site nearby.
Trump hopes that a 3-1/2 year-old truce that Putin started will bring peace to the area as well as reinforce his credentials as a global pacifist worth the Nobel Peace Prize.
For Putin, the Summit is already a big victory that can be portrayed as proof that years of Western efforts to isolate Russia have unfolded and that Moscow is repeating its right position on the high table of international diplomacy.
Putin is desirable by the International Criminal Court, who is accused of the crime of the expulsion of hundreds of children from Ukraine. Russia denies allegations and the Kremlin has rejected the ICC warrant as invalid. Russia and the United States are not members of the court.
Both Moscow and KIEB refuse to target citizens in the war. But thousands of citizens have died in the conflict, the overwhelming majority of Ukraine.
A conservative assessment of the dead and wounded in the War in Ukraine – on both sides combined – a total of 1.2 million people, Trump’s envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said three months ago.
The meeting also included US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump’s special envoy to Russia, Steve Witkoff. Russian foreign policy assistant yury ushakov? and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Trump, who once stated that he would end Russia’s war in Ukraine within 24 hours, admitted on Thursday that he had proven a toughest work than he expected. He said that if Friday’s talks were doing well, the rapid organization of a second top with Zelensky would be more important than his meeting with Putin.
Zelensky said Friday’s summit should pave the way for a “fair peace” and three -dimensional talks that included him, but added that Russia continued to fight war. A Russian ballistic rocket hit the Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region earlier, killing one person and injuring another.
“It’s time to end the war and the necessary steps must be taken from Russia. We count in America,” Zelensky writes in the application of telegraph messages.
