LAHORE: Tehreek e Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) supporters gathered in the tomb of Pakistan’s national poet Allama Iqbal, raising pro Rizvi slogans.
“Rizvi tere jaan nisaar, beshumaar, beshumaar”, the crowd cheered as spectators watched in awe.
Various TLP supporters had gathered in the Allama Iqbal’s tomb on the occasion of Iqbal Day however many people have commented that this was actually a show of strength by TLP after a ban on them was reversed by the government.
Young children were also witnessed chanting TLP’s slogans openly outside Allama Iqbal’s tomb.
Twitterati compared the difference in the State’s action when Captain Safdar raised political slogans in the Mazar e Quaid and the lack of any action after TLP did the same thing in Allama Iqbal’s tomb.
A huge crisis was witnessed when Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s hotel room was raided in Karachi. According to Sindh Police, IG Sindh was picked up from his home by “overzealous” officers who felt offended by the slogans however, the same offence was not witnessed when TLP did the exact same thing.
Senior journalist Mubashir Zaidi asked whether anyone would get emotional after this action.
Journalist Amber Rahim Shamsi wrote: “TLP activists raising political slogans at Allama Iqbal’s tomb. Waiting for the same people who wanted Capt Safdar to either apologise or arrested for ‘violating the sanctity’ of Quaid-e-Azam’s tomb to do the same in this case. Waiting… Waiting..”
Senior journalist and Executive Editor of NayaDaur, Murtaza Solangi tweeted sarcastically that this was the right way to celebrate Iqbal Day.
