The middle class, Tim David, broke the fastest international century on Twenty20 for Australia as it sealed a six Wicket win in Western Indies on the third T20 on Friday to get a 3-0 unavailable lead in the series of five games.
David hit 11 six and six four to end in the undefeated 102 of 37 deliveries, with Australia crushing the hosts with 23 balls to exchange at Warner Park in Basseterre, Saint Kitts.
“I just had a big moment in the middle playing for Australia … I didn’t think I would have the opportunity to get a hundred for Australia, so I’m ready,” David said.
“The stadium was good and small limits, so you have to support your strengths.
“I have spent a lot of time to work on hitting power, but now I work on my shooting choice.”
Put on the bat after Australia won the blow, the western India went down to a steady start that helped from a 125 -hop opening stop between Shai Hope and Brandon King.
Mitchell Owen provided Australia a very necessary discovery when he pulled out the king, who had come out of a deep square, while Shimron Hetmyer (9), Sherfane Rutherford (12) and Rovman Powell (9) were cheaply removed.
The total of the western Indians were reinforced by a thin undefeated 102 of 57 balls by Captain Hope as they published 214-4.
Australia’s response was initially injured as they found themselves 61-3 in 5.5 overs, but David scored a sparkling tone to close the Josh Inglis (43 balls) record for the fastest T20 Century for Australia with six deliveries.
“I don’t think we had enough trips on the boat, in a step like the one with the dimension of the ground, we know that it would be difficult to defend, I think some short trips fell and with the ball we had to get more wickers,” Hope said.
“We are very powerful strikers. But we have to give credit to Australian pellets. They are very well blocked by Overs.”
Australia had won the first T20 with three Wickets and second with eight wickets.
“We have played well so far in a row. We have done well with the ball and there are no words for this Innings by Tim David, we give the types of opportunities in different roles as a team we have played very good cricket,” said Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh.
