ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said that those who were trying to break up the PML-N were themselves disintegrating.
Addressing a general council meeting of the PML-N, Maryam Nawaz thanked the party’s lawmakers for voting for PPP’s Yousaf Raza Gilani, the PDM’s joint candidate during the Senate elections.
Maryam also paid tribute to her lawmakers for supporting “Nawaz Sharif’s narrative.”
“They say Nawaz Sharif’s narrative is too heavy for anyone to carry. The weight of Nawaz’s narrative was carried by the PML-N workers,” she said.
PMLN VP added that the slogan of “Vote Ko Izzat Do” was being accepted by people across the country.
Maryam Nawaz said that PML-N’s workers will not allow anyone to steal the votes of people. She maintained that people were waiting for Nawaz Sharif so that economic activities could be started in the country.
The PML-N leader said that the prime minister knew, right from the very beginning, that he was headed for defeat in the Senate elections. She claimed that because the premier knew he would be defeated in the polls, he had tried to introduce ordinances and had “dragged the Supreme Court” when it came to the Senate elections.
Maryam taunted the prime minister, saying that how could he seek a vote of confidence from his people after accusing them of selling out for money.
Referring to PM Imran Khan she said “You and your MNAs and MPAs know, you have no future and you have no party.”
“Where will you secure the vote of confidence of the masses, who defeated you in the recent by-elections,” she asked.
Earlier today, former president Asif Ali Zardari had thanked Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for supporting Yousuf Raza Gilani, the joint candidate of PDM in Senate elections. PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had telephoned Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman to extend his gratitude over support to Yousuf Raza Gilani in Senate polls.
This comes as Yousaf Raza Gilani beat Hafeez Sheikh for Islamabad’s senate seat. Gilani won 169 votes while Hafeez Sheikh was only able to secure 164 votes. This is even though PTI and its allies had a lead of 18 MNAs in the National Assembly, reflecting that Prime Minister Imran Khan has lost the majority in the National Assembly.
