A United Nations Research Committee concluded that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza and that senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, caused these acts.
In its most conviction to date, the Commission said that the scale of murders, the obstruction of humanitarian aid, the forced displacement and the destruction of infrastructure – including a clinical fertility – amounted to genocidal actions.
“Genocide is happening in Gaza,” said Navi Pillay, head of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and former Judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC). “The responsibility for these atrocity crimes lies in the Israeli authorities at the highest levels that have orchestrated a genocidal campaign for almost two years now with the intention of destroying the Palestinian team in Gaza.”

Israel refused to work with the committee and rejected its findings. Her diplomatic mission in Geneva accused the House of hosting a political agenda against Israel.
Brushed UN Finding Still
The legal analysis of the 72 -page committee’s 72 -page represents the strongest conclusion that is not related to the UND for Gaza War. While the Commission is independent and does not officially speak of the United Nations, its findings add pressure to the UN to formally recognize the situation as genocide.
Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague. She strongly denies all the categories, citing her right to self -defense after Hamas’ attack on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 people and led to 251 hostages, according to Israeli numbers.
The next war in Gaza has killed more than 64,000 people, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. A global hunger monitoring agency has reported famine conditions in parts of the territory.
Genocide Convention Criteria
According to the United Nations Genocide Convention of 1948, genocide is defined as acts committed “with the intention of destroying, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group”. There must be at least one of the five specific acts.
The committee concluded that Israel committed four of the five:
Killing team members
Causing severe physical or mental harm
That deliberately causes living conditions aimed at destruction
Imposing measures intended to prevent births
These findings were based on interviews with victims, witnesses, doctors, verified open source documents and satellite images.
“Immediate proof of genocic intent”
The report highlights the statements of Netanyahu and other top officials as “immediate evidence of genocide intent”. He mentions a letter that Netanyahu wrote to Israeli soldiers in November 2023, comparing Gaza’s operation with a “sacred war of complete disappearance” referring to the Jewish Bible.
Other officials named include Israeli President Isaac Herzog and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Pillay, who previously head of the UN Court of Justice for Rwanda, said the Gaza situation is similar to the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

“When I look at the events in the Rwanda genocide, it’s very similar to that,” he said. “You discourage your victims – they are animals – and therefore, without consciousness. You can kill them.”
While ICJ reported Israeli statements in its emergency class earlier in 2024, it has not immediately named Netanyahu.
“I hope, as a result of our report, that states of states will also open,” said Pillay, who is expected to retire in November.
