UNITED NATIONS:
The United Nations General Assembly on Friday at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday voted overwhelmingly to approve a statement describing “tangible, timely and irreversible steps” to a two -state solution between Israel and the Palestinians before a meeting.
The seven-page statement is the result of an international conference at the UN in July-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France-in decades of big conflicts. The United States and Israel boycott the event.
A resolution that supported the statement received 142 votes in favor and 10 against, and 12 countries are far from. The vote comes ahead of a meeting of world leaders on September 22-on the sidelines of the UN-UN-UN General Assembly that Britain, France, Canada, Australia and Belgium are expected to officially recognize a Palestinian state.
The statement approved by the General Assembly of 193 members condemns the attacks on Israel by Hamas fighters on October 7, 2023, who triggered the war in Gaza. He also condemns Israel’s attacks on citizen and political infrastructure in Gaza, siege and hunger, which have led to a catastrophic humanitarian disaster and a protection crisis. “
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said the resolution has secured Hamas’s international isolation. “For the first time today, the United Nations adopted a text that condemned it for its crimes and seeking its tradition and disarmament,” he said in a X position.
The resolution was backed by all the Arab states of the Gulf. Israel and the United States voted against it, along with Argentina, Hungary, Mikronia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay and Tonga. The statement approved by the resolution states that the war in Gaza “must end now” and support the development of a temporary international stabilization mission entrusted by the United Nations Security Council.
The United States described the vote as “yet another wrong and abused advertising gulf” which undermined serious diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. “Don’t make any mistake, this resolution is a gift to Hamas,” Diplomat Morgan Ortagus said at the General Assembly.
“Far from promoting peace, the conference has already extended the war, encouraged Hamas and hurting the prospects of peace both in the short and in the long run.” Israel, which has long criticized the UN for a long time not to condemn Hamas by the name of the October 7 attacks, has rejected the statement as one -sided and described the vote as a theater.
“The only beneficiary is Hamas … When the terrorists are shouting, you do not move on to peace, you are moving on to terrorism,” Israeli UN ambassador Danny Danon said.
