The Arches it’s finally released with a trailer. Zoya Akhtar’s Indian spin on the folk and nostalgic Archie Comics The series started rolling cameras in April 2022. The film boasts an ensemble cast with big debuts from child stars including Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, Boney Kapoor and late Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, who will be together. by Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, Yuvraj Menda and Aditi Dot.
Titled the fictional rock band from Archie universe, Akhtar’s upcoming release is a young musical rom-com that transports Riverdale to the scenic hills of 1960s India. Archie and the gang are caught between summer romances, big dreams and an anarchist fever that was a staple of its time.
Played by Nanda, Archie longs to leave the city and establish himself as a musician. As his friendship with Betty (Kapoor) tentatively approaches a potential romance, her best friend from London, Veronica (Khan) returns to Riverdale and thrusts the three into an awkward love triangle. Along with Archie, we meet a cast of familiar characters including Jughead (Ahuja), Reggie (Raina), Ethel (Dot) and Dilton (Menda).
But the team may have to put aside personal tensions for an ambitious redevelopment project by Veronica’s industrialist father that threatens to overtake the city’s beloved Green Park. Faced with an imminent threat, Archie and his gang must band together to preserve Riverdale’s beloved green space and their childhood memories.
Muted colors and retro fashion, the three-minute trailer almost gets away with the premise of a vintage Anglo-Indian Riverdale. However, strikingly absent for many familiar with the comics is the distinct cityscape. A case in point is the iconic neon-lit “Pop’s Diner,” which becomes an innocent pile of grays and browns in Akhtar’s rendition.
Usually, trailers are rarely an accurate judge, but the film should be carefully preserved Archie character beyond the plot or risk becoming yet another edgy teenage rebellion movie. Central to such a project are its visual anchors which currently lean more towards boring than retro.
What those waiting for this big release can expect are some fresh and energetic dance sequences to catchy rock tunes like. Wah Wah Boom and Sunoh that galvanize the film’s focus on youth, passion and ambition. Akhtar, who has directed several blockbusters including; Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Gully Boyshe is a practiced virtuoso in her field.
“We wanted the trailer to show people what the film and its characters are about. We also wanted to offer glimpses of the story that highlight their friendship and coming of age,” the director said of the trailer. “The new generation of viewers, who don’t know anything about the Archies, would feel like they’re in a fictional town.”
The Arches is scheduled to hit Netflix screens on December 7.
