Temporary champion claims that UFC kid is “retired”

Temporary UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall suggested that the details of his next match have been finalized, telling the fans that he now has a “date and location” for his return to the Octagon.

The 32 -year -old British fighter made the comments during a conversation with former UFC champions Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, amid continuing speculation for a possible clash with Jon Jones.

“This is the exciting moments for the heavyweight section,” Aspinall said. “I have a date and a location. The active heavyweight champion is here to fight everything – let’s get it.”

Aspinall won the temporary title in November 2023 with a first round of Sergei Paul’s knockout.

The race was in a hurry after Jon Jones retired from defending the title against Stipe Miocic due to injury.

Aspinall later defended the temporary belt with 60 seconds of Curtis Blaydes’s knockout in July, making one of the few UFC fighters to risk defending a temporary title.

Jones returned to action in November, stopping Miocic in the third round to maintain the full heavyweight title. However, the 38 -year -old has not yet committed a period of unification with Aspinall and has since fueled rumors of retirement.

“Jon’s pensioner,” Aspinall added. “What are you talking about, guys? He had a fantastic career … but we are moving forward. I am the unquestionable heavyweight champion of the world.”

With the UFC program already completed by September, the next ASPINALL race seems more likely to take place in October or later.

His comments have been interpreted as a confirmation that he has reached an agreement with the UFC for a future race, although an opponent has not been announced.

Aspinall has a 15-3 record on MMA and is 8-1 in UFC. All UFC wins have come with a break, with seven of them ending in the first round.

The only loss of promotion was the result of a knee injury against Blaydes in 2022.

Although he is widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes in the sport, Jones’ career has been violated by legal issues and multiple failed drug tests.

It remains unbeaten in competition, with its only official loss coming through exclusion in 2009.

As the heavyweight section seeks a renewed momentum, Aspinall’s active approach has placed it as a central element in the formation of its future.
