Tauseef Ahmed has been appointed as the interim chief selector

• Committee under Ahmed to select team for Australia Test series.
• Former cricketer Wajahatullah has been appointed as the head of the junior team selection body.
• Both new appointees are part of the existing selection committee.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday appointed former cricketer Tauseef Ahmed as the interim chief selector for the national team as the post was vacant following the resignation of Inzamam ul Haq last month.

The PCB said the first assignment for the selection committee under Ahmed will be to select the national team for the upcoming tour of Australia for the three-match Test series after the 2023 World Cup.

Additionally, former cricketer Wajahatullah Wasti has been appointed as the head of the minors selection committee, the cricket governing body said.

Both new appointees are members of the existing selection committee.

On 30 October, Inzamam resigned as chief selector in the midst of the 2023 World Cup, following allegations that he was a partner in a player management company.

“People speak without investigation. Questions were asked about me, so I decided it was better to resign,” Inzamam said in a statement.

There were allegations that Inzamam had shares in a company owned by the players’ agent Talha Rehmani. That revelation sparked concerns about potential conflicts of interest, given that Rehmani represents several of Pakistan’s top cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Today, PCB’s Head of Media and Communications, Aalia Rasheed, said Inzamam had a responsibility to inform the cricket body of any potential conflict of interest.

The media chief also clarified that the scoundrel, Mohammed Rizwan – who is also a director at the UK-based company – is not involved in the investigation against Inzamam in the conflict of interest case.

“Initially, we thought the committee would submit its findings soon, but that is no longer the case as the legal, audit and finance departments are also involved, so it will take some time because we have reached a decision,” he said.
