LAHORE: Well-known defence analyst Ayesha Siddiqa has claimed that Renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil has paved the way for former military dictator Zia-ul-Haq’s son Ejaz-ul-Haq to join Tehreek-e-Insaf.
In one of his articles, he wrote with reference to sources that it was Maulana Tariq Jameel who introduced Ijaz-ul-Haq to Imran Khan and played a role in ensuring this political integration. He
wrote that Tariq Jameel has taken this step at the behest of the well-known business group ‘Vital Group’. The said group is also a sponsor of Ijaz-ul-Haq and also bought majority shares in Tariq Jameel’s fashion brand ‘MDJ’ for a hefty price 6 months ago.
According to Ayesha Siddiqa, Vital Group is willing to fund any party that can be part of a government that supports their business interests besides electoral success in their region. It is believed that the Rs 1.8 billion money laundering case in which the FIA named Ijazul Haq earlier this year had some links with the Vital Group.
The Vital Group is a major stakeholder in the tea business and sells soaps and spices from its headquarters in South Punjab. The group was issued a notice in a tax evasion case after the PDM government came to power last year. This means that business groups and Ijazul Haq consider the current coalition government as rivals. Imran Khan’s victory is essential for his future interests.
Ayesha Siddiqui writes that Imran Khan could not possibly have ignored Tariq Jameel’s advice, as he is part of the PTI chief’s strategic team, who was roped in to make religion the basis of his support.
