Jamaat-e-Islami's sit-ins outside the Punjab Chief Minister's House and three governor houses entered a fourth day, with Mall Road in Lahore closed on both tracks. Liaquat Baloch said the rulers were not ready to give up their luxuries.

Petrol rises to Rs331.20 and high-speed diesel to about Rs390.42 from August 18, the third petrol increase this month. It comes days after the government assured goods transporters that prices would move fortnightly or monthly rather than daily.

Jamaat-e-Islami held sit-ins in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and other cities for a second day. In Thursday's review the government raised the diesel levy by another rupee to Rs77.28 a litre, with petrol held at Rs80.

Police blocked Jamaat-e-Islami from staging its sit-in outside Governor House in Karachi, closing approach roads with containers. The party says the sit-ins will continue until the petroleum levy is abolished.

Jamaat-e-Islami held simultaneous sit-ins in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta against the petroleum levy and inflation. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman called the levy a "jagga tax" and repeated the demand for petrol at Rs225 a litre.

Collections from the petroleum levy reached Rs1.567 trillion in 2025-26, up 29 per cent and above both the original and revised targets. The fiscal deficit fell to 2.6 per cent of GDP, the lowest since FY03 — while diesel is 34 per cent dearer than a year ago.

Petrol has been cut by Re0.94 to Rs324.98 while high-speed diesel rose Re0.54 to Rs382.79 — the two moving in opposite directions on three of the past six revisions. The KSE-100 closed slightly lower but held above 180,000.

Petrol fell Rs3.19 on Friday. The diesel levy rose Rs1.21 the same day, having risen Rs1.44 the day before. Aflatoon on a week in which the price of relief was carefully set at slightly less than nothing.
