The SPI increased by 4.57% year-on-year due to the increase in perishables

Pakistan’s short-term inflation, as measured by the sensitive price index (SPI), registered an increase of 4.57% year-on-year (y-o-y) for the week ending October 16, 2025, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The SPI, which tracks the weekly price movement of 51 staples across 50 markets in 17 cities, showed the combined index rose 0.49% week-on-week (WoW), driven by sharp increases in perishable food prices. On a year-on-year basis, inflation remained lower than the double-digit levels seen earlier this year, suggesting that supply-side conditions have improved. The PBS report revealed that tomato prices rose by 121.38%
