Lewis Hamilton ushers in New Era at Ferrari as he starts day one at Maranello ahead of 2025 F1 season

Lewis Hamilton has expressed his excitement and pride after officially starting his journey with Ferrari, calling his first day at the Maranello factory a “new era” for the legendary team. The seven-time world champion signed with Ferrari in January 2024, ending a 12-year stint at Mercedes. However, due to contractual obligations, Hamilton was unable to start work with his new team until this week. Kimi Antonelli replaces Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes for 2025

Monza: Italian driver Kimi Antonelli will replace seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes next season, it was announced during the 18-year-old’s home Grand Prix at Monza on Saturday. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff revealed he made the decision to sign Antonelli shortly after Hamilton, 39, informed him last January of his intention to move to Ferrari in 2025. “Instinctively, this is the lineup I’ve always wanted,” Wolff said, referring to Antonelli’s entry with George Russell. The Austrian expressed high expectations for the young driver, but acknowledged that Antonelli would likely make mistakes as part of his development.

SILVERSTONE: George Russell beat Lewis Hamilton to secure pole as the Mercedes team broke through a gridlock in Saturday’s tense qualifying session for Sunday’s British Grand Prix. The two Britons were wildly applauded by the crowd which saw a third Brit Lando Norris of McLaren take third to deliver the first one-two-three by British drivers in their home race. It was the first British triple top in qualifying at any race since the 1968 South African Grand Prix. Russell took pole in one minute and 25.819 seconds to beat seven-time champion Hamilton by 0.171 seconds in the final minute as

‘Not good enough’ angers Mercedes boss Wolff after China flop

SHANGHAI: Mercedes boss Toto Wolff expressed concern that his team’s performance “wasn’t good enough” on Sunday after George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished sixth and ninth respectively at the Chinese Grand Prix. Mercedes have won the Shanghai International Circuit six times before, more than any other team, but were never in the game as Formula 1 returned after a five-year absence. “Considering where we started today and more importantly where we had put the cars in terms of set-up after the sprint, P6 and P9 were the best predictions from our pre-race simulations,” Wolff said. “The car we have under

Vettel, who retires in 2022, suggested on Wednesday that he could return to the sport and said he had held talks with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff. Mercedes must replace seven-time world champion Hamilton, who announced in February that he was leaving to join Ferrari at the end of the season after 11 years with the Silver Arrows. Hamilton has given Vettel his stamp of approval, telling reporters ahead of this weekend’s

Ferrari’s sense of Mercedes’ desperation: Australian GP talking points

MELBOURNE: Impeccable runs from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in Melbourne, combined with Max Verstappen’s retirement, have ensured that Red Bull will not have it all their own way this season. Just four points now separate Leclerc and the Dutch defending world champion in the drivers’ standings, with Sainz seven points back ahead of the fourth race in Japan in two weeks. AFP Sport looks at three things we learned from Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix: Sainz and Leclerc both said before the Melbourne race that the Scuderia were closing in on Red Bull and a fast weekend capped by

Mercedes duo frustrated by ‘strange day’

BAHRAIN: Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were left frustrated and disappointed on Saturday after finishing seventh and fifth in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. “It’s a shame we didn’t get to show any of the real potential of this car, so it was a bit of a strange day,” Russell said. “It’s not something to worry too much about – we just needed to put a slightly bigger body on the car.” Seven-time champion Hamilton, who is leaving Mercedes for Ferrari to replace Carlos Sainz in 2025, had topped practice on Friday ahead of Russell, raising hopes of

Alonso feels he can race until he is 50 if he is motivated

LONDON: Fernando Alonso feels he could be fit enough to race in Formula 1 well into his 50s, with Aston Martin already looking to extend his contract until 2026, but he is unsure how long he wants to keep going. The 42-year-old Spaniard is signed until the end of 2024 but is already being discussed as a potential successor to Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes when the seven-time champion joins Ferrari next year. Few F1 drivers have raced into their 40s in the modern era, although 1992 champion Nigel Mansell was a race winner aged 41 in 1994. Double world champion
