Hamas will skip truce talks in Gaza but may meet with mediators later.

CAIRO: Hamas said on Wednesday it would not participate in a new round of Gaza ceasefire talks scheduled for Thursday in Qatar, but an official briefed on the talks said mediators were expected to consult with the Palestinian group afterward. The US said it expected indirect talks to continue as planned in the Qatari capital on Thursday and that a ceasefire agreement was still possible, while warning that progress was urgently needed to avoid a wider war. Axios reported that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken postponed a trip to the Middle East that was expected to begin on Tuesday.

12 more Israeli prisoners freed as mediators seek lasting truce

GAUZE: The truce between Israel and Hamas entered its sixth day on Wednesday after more prisoners were released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, with mediators pushing for a “sustainable” ceasefire. After a 48-hour extension to an initial four-day truce, a new group of 12 prisoners was released from Gaza on Tuesday, with 30 Palestinians freed from Israeli prisons. The final 24 hours of the extended deal begin later on Wednesday, with another prisoner-for-prisoner swap expected, but the Qatari mediator said he hoped for a more durable deal.
