Mexicans fear violence in Sinaloa after El Mayo’s arrest
CULIACAN, MEXICO: Scarred by the latest battle between the cartels, residents of the northern Mexican state of Sinaloa are bracing for violence amid fears that the capture of legendary drug lord Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada could spark a rift and bloody war. Zambada, who founded the Sinaloa Cartel in the late 1980s with former kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, was arrested last week near El Paso, Texas, after disembarking from a small plane. Surprise at the dramatic arrest quickly turned to horror in Sinaloa as it emerged that one of El Chapo’s sons had allegedly betrayed the cartel’s biggest politician.
