Pakistan's Afghan enforcement drive has deported 8,400 people in the three days since the July 10 arrest deadline, with more than 2,940 removed on Thursday July 9 alone, according to figures from the Taliban's returnee commission. Provinces submitted their first daily enforcement reports to the Interior Ministry on July 11-12. In Peshawar, around 20,000 undocumented Afghans are being prepared for deportation in what would be the single largest single-city removal operation since the drive began.

Pakistan Begins Arresting Undocumented Afghans as July 10 Deadline Expires; UNHCR Urges Halt

Pakistan's Ministry of Interior has begun enforcement operations to arrest undocumented Afghan nationals now that the voluntary departure deadline has expired. Provincial authorities have been instructed to submit daily arrest, detention and deportation tallies to the Ministry from July 11. The UNHCR has renewed calls for Pakistan to halt forced returns, citing risk of persecution for many categories of returnees under Taliban rule, including former government employees, journalists and women who held public roles.
