Brent Crude Hits $100 Per Barrel for First Time Since May as Houthi Attacks on Saudi Tankers Open New Front

Brent crude crossed $100 per barrel on July 24, 2026 — its highest level since May — rising more than 13 per cent on the week after Houthi forces attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea in what the group described as enforcement of a new blockade of Saudi ports. Kazakhstan's suspension of crude exports through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal following drone attacks compounded the supply shock. For Pakistan, which now sets retail fuel prices daily against global benchmarks, the implications are immediate.

KSE-100 Surges 2,400 Points on US-Iran Mediation Hopes as Oil Eases; Rupee Steady at Rs278

Pakistan's KSE-100 benchmark index surged more than 2,400 points on July 21, touching an intraday high of 178,370 — up 1.39% from the previous close — as investor sentiment improved on reports that regional mediators had proposed a 10-day US-Iran ceasefire. Brent crude eased to $88.88 per barrel. The rupee held steady at Rs278.35 in the interbank market. Buying was broad-based across banks, energy, cement and automobiles. The market is pricing in a ceasefire proposal that neither Washington nor Tehran has formally accepted.
