ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday has ordered to close illegal campuses of private universities across the country.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial conducted hearing of the case.
During the proceedings, the court has directed to ensure implementation on the policies of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). No compromise will be tolerated on the higher education of the youth, the apex court remarked.
HEC has clarified that the universities are not allowed to establish district campuses.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial instructed the federal and provincial governments to cooperate in maintaining the standard of education in the country. We will order federation to amend laws if HEC is weak, he stated.
Meanwhile, lawyer Ali Zafar told that the students approached Lahore High Court (LHC) for the matter of their degrees. The court thoroughly analyzed the facts and termed the campuses as illegal, he added.
