SHO and Eleven Officers Charge-Sheeted Over Mistaken Raid on Attorney General’s Lahore Residence

The station house officer of Lahore’s Sarwar Road police station and eleven personnel have been charge-sheeted after a raiding party entered the residence of the Attorney General for Pakistan by mistake (Geo News).

According to police, the raiding party had information concerning a neighbouring house and mistakenly entered the Attorney General’s residence during the operation.

A first information report states that the officials exceeded their authority in conducting the raid.

The Attorney General’s driver, Irfan, alleged that the SHO climbed over the gate and entered the property with other personnel, and that only household staff were present at the time. He further alleged that the police removed the CCTV system and later returned the digital video recorder after deleting the footage. Those are the driver’s allegations as reported; the police account of the entry has not been set out in the same detail.

The Attorney General reached the house after being informed of the raid while he was attending a meeting.

The case is unusual less for the mistake than for the response to it. Wrong-address raids are not rare in Pakistani policing; charge-sheeting an SHO and eleven officers within days of one is. The distinguishing feature here is whose gate was climbed.
