ISLAMABAD: Minister for Law and Justice Barrister Farogh Naseem and Advisor to Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior, Shahzad Akbar have rejected the allegations raised by the former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) chief Bashir Memon.
Former FIA chief Bashir Memon, while speaking in an interview with a private news channel alleged that Faroogh Naseem and Shahzad Akbar wanted him to proceed against Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa and other Opposition leaders.
Memon said Naseem and Akbar also wanted him to proceed against Justice Isa on money laundering charges, but he had refused to do so as, according to the ex-DG FIA, the agency had no grounds to do so especially in the matter of a Supreme Court judge.
The former FIA chief said the government wanted to lodge a treason case against the PML-N leader. but he told them that the agency would have to prove such a serious allegation and back it up with evidence, in court.
Akhbar, in his tweet, stated that “Just seen absolute rubbish uttered by Bashir Memon on Shazeb show. He was never called for any meeting with PM or myself on QFI issue, and there was no meeting with law minister and him as he claims. Similarly, he was never told to start any case against any specific individual 1/2”
He added that “Only case referred to FIA was of sedition by the fed cabinet. I have instructed lawyers in a personal capacity to initiate legal action for his slander.”
On the other hand, Law and Justice Minister Barrister Farogh Naseem also strongly refuted the former FIA chief’s allegations in his tweet. He said “Completely refute baseless allegations leveled by Bashir Memon on Shazeb Khanzadas program Geo TV. I want to categorically state as follows: 1. I have never discussed any issue regarding Justice Qazi Faez Isa with Bashir Memon. 1/3”
He further added “2. Azam Khan, Shehzad Akber and Bashir Memon have never come to my office together. Azam Khan has only come to my office once and that was all by himself only to discuss legal reforms. 2/3”
In another tweet, he wrote, “3. Prime Minister Imran Khan, Azam Khan or Shehzad Akber have never ever stated to me that they have discussed anything with Bashir Memon about Justice Isa. 4. Rights are reserved 3/3”
