ISLAMABAD: Shahnawaz Amir told Islamabad Police that he killed his wife because he suspected his wife was a foreign agent, according to sources.
Shahnawaz claimed that he suspected his wife was also having an affair and tried to kill him after which he hit her in the head with a dumbbell in self-defence.
According to Police sources, Shahnawaz immediately sent a photo of his deceased wife Sarah to his father, renowned journalist Ayaz Amir.
Earlier, a local court in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for the parents of Shahnawaz Amir accused of murdering his wife.
Accepting the petition filed by Islamabad police, the district and sessions court issued arrest warrants for the father Ayaz Amir and the mother of Shahnawaz Amir.
The suspect was presented before the court of a civil judge, Mubashir Hassan Chishti, where the investigation officer informed him that the suspect “killed his wife in cold blood.”
During the hearing, the police requested the court to grant a 10-day physical remand of suspect Shahnawaz for interrogation.
At this, Shahnawaz’s lawyer said that it was a “blind murder” so they have no objection to the police’s request for remand.
However, he asserted that the case is based on “just allegations” now.
However, the request for taking the suspect’s fingerprints was rejected.
“The fingerprints can be acquired from National Database and Registration Authority,” the judge said.
On the other hand, the Islamabad police have registered a first information report (FIR) at the Chak Shahzad police station in the murder case of senior journalist Ayaz Amir’s daughter-in-law.
The FIR, a copy of which is available with The Pakistan Daily, was registered under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) Nawazish Ali Khan.
The complaint stated that on September 23, the suspect’s mother Samina Shah called the police and informed them that Shahnawaz had murdered his wife “with a dumbbell”.
“My son is present in the house and has hidden the body,” the FIR quoted Shah as saying, adding that the police subsequently raided the house.
“He had locked himself up in his room. When they broke inside, there were stains of blood stains on Shahnawaz’s hands and clothes,” the police said in the complaint.
“He then confessed that he had repeatedly hit his wife with a dumbbell during an argument and then hid her body in the washroom’s bathtub.”
According to the FIR, Shahnawaz also said he had “hidden” the murder weapon under his bed.
Upon examining the dumbbell, the police found blood and hair on it. “We have sent it for forensics,” the FIR added.
The complaint further stated that the victim’s body had been sent to the Polyclinic Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, Journalist Ayaz Amir while speaking to the media expressed his shock over the incident and said that whatever happened with his daughter-in-law should not happen to anyone.
Ayaz Amir refused to comment on whether his son was under the influence of any narcotics.
On Friday, the daughter-in-law of senior journalist Ayaz Amir was found dead in the Chak Shehzad area of the capital.
According to police, the woman — identified as Sarah — was murdered by her husband, Amir’s son. The body was recovered from a farmhouse in Shahzad Town.
The Candian-born deceased Sara Bibi was Shahnawaz’s third wife, the police said.
“The incident is being investigated; whatever facts come out, will be shared,” police added.
