ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Secretary-General of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has left for the United States (US) on a 15-day visit on Sunday.
The PDM secretary general will inquire about the health of his ailing sister and brother-in-law in Pennsylvania, who are critical and in intensive care unit after testing positive for novel coronavirus.
A summary was approved by the Federal Ministry of Interior under which the government removed Abbasi’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL), paving the way for his abroad family’s health inquiry.
The former prime minister is currently facing number of corruption cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against him in an accountability court in Islamabad.
To a query, the sources said Abbasi has no plan to visit London and meet Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif due to precarious corona situation in the United Kingdom.
PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal will look after the responsibilities of Abbasi in the PDM during the days in which he wouldn’t be available, the sources added.
