Rohit Sharma warns India waiting for “races” against Australia

Rohit Sharma warned the India team on Monday to wait for “races” and “Nervy Times” against Australia in the Champions Trophy last four in a rematch of the 2023 World Cup final.

India forged New Zealand with 44 runs on Sunday to be undefeated in three matches and the top team A of the 50-over tournament played in Dubai and Pakistan.

They then face Australia, led by Steve Smith on Tuesday in Dubai for a place in the final of the eight -point event.

Australia defeated England’s opponents from five Wickets in their opening race, but the next two games were abandoned because of the rain.

There are also a number of key players, but Australians have a reputation for increasing their game when it is important and defeated India’s guests in the World Cup final, the last time the two countries played ODI.

“Look. It’s a big contrast to play against,” Skipper Rohit told reporters. “All we have to do is what we have thought of the last three games and we have to approach this game in a similar way.

“We understand the opposition and how they play and such things.”

Australia is on paper a weaker team than the one that defeated India with six wickets in Ahmedabad in November 2023.

The world champions lost the fast -paced Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood in the ankle and hip injuries respectively for Trophy Champions.

It is also without Mitchell Starc, which is out for personal reasons.

Mitchell Marsh is also absent with an injury, and Marcus Stoinis announced his retirement on the eve of the tournament.

“Look, Australia was such a great team all these years,” Rohit said. “That’s why we will wait for some races. We will wait for some nerve moments in the middle.

“But this is how the game is played these days. And you are talking about a semifinal.”

‘Dubai not home’

India entered with four spinners, including two of all rounds in their last team in Dubai and came the trumps with Varun Chakravarty who returned 5-42 data.

Rohit said he would be tempted to keep the same combination against Australia.

“He just showed what he is capable of,” Rohit said of the man in the race Chakravarthy, a wrist spinning with many variations to his sleeve.

“Now it is up to us to think and see how we can get this combination properly. He did what was asked … It is a good headache to have.”

India has hit to play all their games in one place in Dubai, while other teams carry between three Pakistani cities and the UAE.

India refused to play in tournaments hosts Pakistan because of political tension.

“Even for us it is a small question mark on which stadium is playing,” Rohit said.

“Because there are four or five surfaces used here. I don’t know which stadium is going to be played in the semifinals.

“But whatever happens. We need to adapt and see what’s going on and what is not. And this is not our home. This is Dubai.”
