Rifts in TLP: Pir Afzal Qadri calls Khadim Rizvi’s son ‘mentally unstable’

LAHORE: The founder of the Tehreek e Labaik Pakistan (TLP) has stirred a huge controversy after he called the late Khadim Rizvi’s son, Saad Rizvi ‘mentally unstable’ and unfit to lead TLP.

Pir Afzal Qadri, who is the founder of the movement further stated that Saad Rizvi was not a Hafiz and did not have any religious credentials.

“The wrong kind of people have been imposed on us but I will throw them out,” Pir Afzal Qadri said in a startling statement.

A bitter succession war is going on within TLP after the death of eccentric Molvi, Khadim Hussain Rizvi. Sources in TLP claim that the two frontrunners for leadership are Saad Rizvi, the son of Khadim Rizvi and Pir Afzal Qadri.

Both sides have accused each other of stealing charity and doing corruption. Pir Afzal Qadri went as far saying that Khadim Rizvi’s daughter had accepted a 40 kanal plot in Iran as a gift from the minority Shia community.

TLP is an extremist Sunni movement which has shown its strength primarily in street protests. Just days before Khadim Rizvi’s death, the TLP blocked Islamabad and demanded the removal of the french ambassador.

The party has also had minor electoral success with 2 million votes and 2 provincial assembly seats in the previous election.
