ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Religious and Minority Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri has written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan asking to put a ban on the Aurat March.
Qadri has written a letter to the prime minister suggesting to ban the Aurat March to be celebrated in Pakistan on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8.
In a letter, Qadri said that International Hijab Day should be observed instead on March 8. On the occasion of Women’s Day, Aurat March or any other title should not be allowed to make fun of Islamic values and the Shariah principle of hijab.
In the letter, the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs said that the discrimination against Muslim women in India on the occasion of Hijab Day and the ongoing atrocities in Occupied Kashmir should be exposed. The international community should be asked to put pressure on the Indian government.
The federal minister requested PM Imran Khan to stop the March 8’s Women March and sent a copy to President Dr Arif Alvi.
It should be noted that Women’s March is celebrated on March 8 every year.
Last year, Aurat March sparked outrage when alleged banners and videos of protesters chanting objectionable slogans surfaced on social media.
The march’s organisers have stated that the objective is to educate women about their rights protest against the increasing sexual and domestic violence.
