Priscilla Presley, the ex-wife of the legendary Elvis Presley, recently revealed the emotional reasons behind her long-standing vow to never remarry after her marriage to the King of Rock and Roll ended.
During a Q&A event in Las Vegas, she spoke candidly about the vow she made to herself and music icon Elvis. Priscilla, now 78, has seemingly confirmed the long-held rumor that she vowed never to remarry while Elvis was alive. She confessed: “I just don’t think she could handle this.”
Their marriage, which lasted from 1967 to 1973, ended in divorce, but she stayed true to her promise even after Elvis’ untimely death in 1977. “To be honest with you, I never wanted to get married after him. . she shared. “No one could ever match him.”
Priscilla also opened up about their decision not to have more children after the birth of their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in 1968. Elvis’ demanding schedule and touring commitments led him to feel guilty about not being around for Lisa when she was younger, which influenced their decision.
In a separate interview with Piers Morgan, Priscilla revealed that Elvis’ sudden death at the age of 42 still affects her deeply. He recalled the moment Elvis’ road manager, Joe Esposito, broke the tragic news. “I can still hear Joe Esposito saying, ‘Sheila, Elvis is dead,’ and that was like I couldn’t imagine that he never had him, he didn’t talk to him,” she expressed.
Priscilla also fondly recalled what drew her to Elvis, emphasizing his keen sense of humor and charisma. Their decades-long love story is now being chronicled in the Sofia Coppola-directed biopic Priscilla, which offers a glimpse into their legendary romance.
The film stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi and brings the enduring legacy of Elvis and Priscilla Presley to a new generation of fans.
