President Asif Ali Zardari visited the historic site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Shanghai. He was accompanied by First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The memorial is located in Shanghai’s historic French Concession, where the CPC held its first congress in July 1921. President Zardari toured the iconic Shikumen-style building and the adjoining exhibition hall, which houses invaluable relics, photographs, and documents from the Party’s early history.
The President praised the preservation of this heritage, calling it a symbol of China’s cultural legacy and one of Shanghai’s most significant landmarks.
More than a century ago, Chairman Mao Zedong and twelve other leaders attended the founding congress at this very site. The Communist Party has since transformed China from poverty into a global military, technological, and economic power.
In the visitors’ book, President Zardari wrote that visiting the CPC Memorial was “an honor,” noting that the historic venue highlights the Party’s decisive role in shaping China into a global force.
He added that the people of Pakistan deeply respect China’s historic journey. Praising President Xi Jinping’s visionary leadership, President Zardari said it had accelerated the momentum of Pakistan-China friendship and elevated China into one of the world’s leading economies.
“As iron brothers, our friendship will continue to flourish across all fields,” he remarked. “The Pakistan-China partnership is an all-weather bond that will keep growing stronger.”
Concluding his visit, President Zardari declared: “Long live Pakistan-China friendship!”
Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon, and Sindh Planning and Energy Minister Syed Nasir Shah accompanied the President. Also present were Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and Pakistan’s Ambassador Khalil Hashmi.
