PPP, PML-N cry foul in Gilgit Baltistan elections as PTI takes the lead

GILGIT: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) made severe allegations of rigging in the Gilgit Baltistan elections where the ruling Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) is leading.

As per preliminary results, PTI is leading with 9 seats, PPP has managed to win 3 seats while PMLN lags behind with only 2 seats.

Taking to the microblogging website, Twitter, Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “In Gilgit Baltistan, the PTI did not exist before and neither does it exist now. The few begged seats that PTI won are due to bullying and rigging. This defeat tells the story of the days to come”.

Adding to the claims of election rigging, PPP Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said, “My election has been stolen. I will be joining the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in their protest shortly.”

Meanwhile, Information Minister Shibli Faraz held that PTI’s victory in Gilgit Baltistan was evidence that the people of Pakistan bestowed their trust in Prime Minister Imran’s leadership.

“The people of GB have rejected the narrative of PMLN and have expressed confidence in the ideology of PM Imran Khan,” Shibli Faraz said.
