LAHORE: PML-N MNA Javed Latif has been arrested after a Lahore sessions court dismissed his bail plea in a case of allegedly defaming state institutions.
The PML-N leader appeared before the court as additional sessions judge Wajid Minhas resumed the hearing.
The court reserved a verdict after hearing arguments of both defence counsel and prosecutor.
PML-N leader Javed Latif left the courtroom before the pronouncement of the verdict. The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested him from the Sagian Pull area after the court dismissed his bail extension plea.
Previously, Sessions court extended interim bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mian Javed Latif till April 27 in a case of allegedly defaming state institutions.
Additional sessions Judge Wajid Minhas heard the case.
During the hearing, Latif’s counsel presented a COVID-19 diagnosis report of his client, showing him infected with the virus. “My client has tested positive COVID-19 and currently is in self-isolation.”
The court while suspecting the report ordered Javed Latif to undergo another test and directed concerned authorities to verify his COVID report, presented before the court.
Later, the court accepted the plea of the PML-N leader seeking exemption from the hearing and extended his interim bail till April 27.
Earlier, the court called for the PML-N leader’s Covid-19 test report to be presented before it on April 14 and directed him to turn up on the next hearing if he tests negative for the coronavirus.
This comes as a case has been registered against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA, Mian Javed Latif for making a controversial statement.
The case has been registered at the Township Police Station Lahore over the complaint of a citizen named Jameel Saleem for maligning state institutions.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Javed Latif deliberately defaming the state institutions and carried out hate speech. Jameel Saleem further stated that the statement of the PML-N stalwart created hate between the party and the Pakistan People’s Party workers and he (Javed Latif) created chaos. He added that by the statement the PML-N leader tried to terrorise citizens.
Saleem has urged the authorities to take action against MNA Mian Javed Latif under the Pakistan Prevention of Electronic Crime Act. He has included Sections 120, 120-B, 153, 153-A, 500 and 500 1 –B in the FIR.
It is to be noted that Javed Latif had said during a current affairs show on a private TV channel that if anything happened to PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, the PML-N will not say “Pakistan Khappay”.
