PML-N stalwart Mushahid Ullah Khan passes away

KARACHI: Senior PML-N leader Mushahidullah Khan has passed away at the age of 68.

He had served as the Federal Minister for Climate Change during Nawaz Sharif’s last term and had been a PML-N senator since 2009.

Mushahidullah Khan was born in Rawalpindi but spent most of his life in Karachi and contested elections on PML-N tickets. He had been a part of the Muslim League since 1990.

Commenting on the demise of a loyal party worker, Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz Sharif said: “Senator Mushahidullah Khan, MNS’s loyal and exceptional companion left us. I am shattered to hear the sad news. Will never be able to forget his fatherly affection & love. Huge huge loss. May Allah SWT shower upon him every blessing that HE has reserved for the afterlife. Ameen.”

In January 2015, then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appointed him head of the Benazir Income Support Program, but he refused to take the post and was later made Minister for Climate Change.

He was once again given a ticket by the PML-N for the 2021 Senate elections, but there was opposition within the party that he should not be given a ticket due to a serious illness.

Mushahid Ullah Khan met Khaliq Haqiqi on the night of February 17, just two weeks before the Senate election.
