ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said Imran Khan took votes at gunpoint from the same party members he accused of corruption.
Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders were speaking to the media at Sindh House after Prime Minister Imran Khan secured the vote of confidence in the National Assembly.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier won a vote of confidence from the National Assembly after 178 MNAs voted for the premier by a show of hand. For a successful vote of confidence, 172 votes are needed but Imran Khan was able to secure a vote of confidence with 6 extra votes.
The PMLN Vice President said that she wasn’t shocked by the results of PM Imran Khan’s confidence vote. “The result was not unexpected and they have shown what is happening in the country. There is no denying the fact that PTI is on its way out. The party has suffered its political death and someone just needs to bury it now,” she said.
“Imran Khan is the first certified leader who stole votes. Once the fog clears, the reality that will become visible. The nation is empowered now and can see everything now,” Maryam said.
It will be better for Imran Khan to leave now. “Just accept the public’s decision and leave.”
Maryam also criticised the establishment stated that “The people who saved Imran Khan today will have to tell the nation why they saved a robber”, adding that “The nation’s verdict was given the day Yousaf Raza Gillani won, and nothing in the world can change that.”
“This Pakistani Trump will face a similar fate. Just make sure you pack everything when you leave Prime Minister House,” she said.
Regarding the Marriyum Aurangzeb assaulted by PTI workers outside Parliament, she said: “The way you [PTI] attacked Marriyum Aurangzeb is shameful. The way your goons attacked her was seen by the nation.”
Commenting on the shoe that was hurled at Ahsan Iqbal, Maryam said: “You [Imran Khan] will have to pay for it. Your security should be taken away from you. If you go out in public now then the nation will attack you.” We believe in the politics of decency, but you should know that PML-N workers wear shoes too.”
PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that politics is the art of making the impossible, possible. “We have made it evident how fragile the National Assembly is, how fragile the government is, how fragile the puppet is,” he said adding that this one Senate election has proved that the premier has lost.
Referring to Imran as a ‘grumpy old man’, Bilawal said that even the National Assembly had rejected Imran Khan and the puppet government.
“As the leader of the house it was his [Imran’s] duty to condemn what happened outside the parliament but he did not,” the PPP chairman said adding that despite all the hue and cry Yousaf Raza Gillani is now a member of the Senate.
He further added that instead of pointing fingers at Gillani, Imran should take lessons from him on how to respect his party members.
While speaking to the media in Sukkur on Saturday, Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that PM Imran’s vote of confidence is unconstitutional. “Strong-armed tactics were used to force MNAs to vote in his favour,” he claimed.
