ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has confirmed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will seek a fresh vote of confidence from the National Assembly, after PDM’s candidate, Yousaf Raza Gilani defeated PTI’s Hafeez Sheikh, reflecting that the PDM had more numbers in the National Assembly.
In a press conference held shortly after the upset loss for the PTI, Qureshi said: “Those standing with Imran Khan will be seen on one side and those who are not, and think they like the ideology of the PPP and PML-N have every right to join their ranks.”
Asad Umar, Shireen Mazari, Shafqat Mehmood and Fawad Chaudhry were also in attendance.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reminded the Prime Minister of his promise to dissolve the assemblies if he lost the Islamabad Senate Elections in a tweet.
Bilawal said: “The PM had promised to dissolve the assembly if he lost the Islamabad Senate seat. He lost. We won. Now what’s stopping him? Is Kaptaaan scared of elections?”
On the other hand, Qureshi held that the PDM had no ideological basis and only did politics for their self interest.
“We informed the ECP that it is your constitutional duty to ensure free and fair elections,” said Qureshi, adding that the ECP had failed to ensure transparency.
