ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his distress on Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)’s act of risking people’s life by holding a rally despite surging coronavirus cases in Peshawar.
On the microblogging website Twitter, PM Khan accused PDM of “playing reckless politics with people’s safety”. He added that Pakistan Democratic Movement is disregarding the court’s order of not holding rallies and gatherings.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Reforms Asad Umar in his tweet mentioned the statistics of rising COVID-19 cases in Peshawar. He stated that the ratio of positive cases in Peshawar alone is 13.39%. In addition to the recent statistics, he also criticised PDM by saying, the people on stage don’t care about the citizens on the ground while they stay safe on the stage themselves.
While quoting Asad Umar’s tweet PM Imran Khan lashed out at the rash behaviour of PDM leaders. The premier said, “The same PDM members who wanted a strict lockdown and criticised me earlier are now playing reckless politics with people’s safety,”
The statement from PM Khan came as a response to the opposition’s decision of not backing away from holding their Peshawar ‘Jalsa’, defying the restrictions of city administration and court orders regarding gathering and rallies.
In addition to that PDM media coordinator, Abdul Jalil Jan said that they are not going to tolerate any restrictions from the Peshawar district administration, and their rally will be held as per schedule on November 22nd. He further added that it is their constitutional and fundamental right to hold rallies.
